Winter Park - North Central Colorado
Located in the beautiful Fraser Valley and enclosed by the Arapaho National Forest, Winter Park is home to numerous activities. Don't be fooled by the name because Winter Park is also a summer playground. You'll discover an exhilarating alpine slide, excellent fishing, breathtaking hiking, fun whitewater rafting, and dazzling scenery.
Winter Park's extensive mountain bike trail system covers some 500 miles of mapped trails and 200 miles of marked trails. The trails use old logging and ranching roads, sure to delight two-wheeler beginners or experts. Drive over the spectacular Berthoud Pass that crosses the Continental Divide at 11,301'. Or take the Rollins Pass Road in a four-wheel drive, following the original railway over the Divide, used for 24 years until the completion of the Moffat Tunnel 1927. The Rainbow, Brook, Mackinaw, and Cutthroat Trout and the Kokanee Salmon in the lakes and rivers will draw Anglers to the Arapahoe National Forest.
During winter, take a trip to Winter Park Ski Resort. Boasting 134 trails and 1,414 acres, the three peaks of Winter Park have become known as "Colorado's favorite ski area." Winter Park also flaunts Vasquez Cirque, a 435' expert skiing area. With constant upgrades to lifts, great children's and beginner's facilities, the world's finest disabled skiers' program, and consistently good snow. Winter Park is a conveniently located, friendly ski resort. Berthoud Pass, home to Colorado's premiere backcountry skiing and snowboarding, is located on Highway 40. The ski area is closed as there are no operating lifts and no safety personnel.
