PHOTO DESCRIPTION, Colorado, The CVD PHOTO DESCRIPTION, Colorado, The CVD

Buena Vista "pleasant view" is quaintly nestled at the base of the Majestic Collegiate and Sawatch Mountains in a protected valley called the "Banana Belt." We have the largest concentration of mountain peaks that exceed 14,000 ft elevation in Colorado and the lower 48 states. BV is the ultimate outdoor mecca with the Arkansas River passing through the valley we are known as the whitewater rafting capital of the US. No matter the season, staying at Thunder Lodge can be your gateway to the adventures of a lifetime!

Warm, cozy and inviting, all cabins have fully equipped kitchens and a large comfortable living room with cable TV and free WI-FI internet access. There are memory foam-topped full size bed in each of the two private bedrooms, plus a sleeper sofa in the living room. Each cabin can accommodate 6 to 8 people comfortably. Roll-away beds and cribs are available upon request.

This rustic gazebo is the latest addition to Thunder Lodge. The gazebo overlooks Cottonwood Creek, which runs along the edge of the property and features: a stainless steel & granite outdoor kitchen and jacuzzi hot tub.

Enjoy wide range of year round activities: fishing, hiking, biking, rafting, horseback riding, hunting, alpine & cross-country skiing & snowmobiling on groomed trails. Come bring your family and relax on banks of Cottonwood Creek.

HUNTER WILL APPRECIATE THE DRESSING FACILITY ON-SITE.

Colorado has a great heritage of wildlife conservation and hunting tradition that is proudly maintained in the Upper Arkansas River Valley. The application deadline for limited licenses for area big game hunting -- including deer, elk, some bighorn sheep and mountain goats, and a very limited number of antelope -- happen about the first week of April. Over the counter small game licenses are available for rabbit and squirrels. Among winged prey, besides blue grouse and ptarmigan, there is increasing hunting interest in the growing population of wild turkey throughout the area. As for waterfowl, Canadian Honkers love our many grass ranches filled with their favorite stubble and ducks can be found along the winding rivers throughout Chaffee County. Those in the know have said that Chaffee County is best used as a base for waterfowl hunting excursions into the neighboring San Luis Valley. For complete details of hunting seasons, regulations and licenses call the Colorado Division of Wildlife.
