The snowmobile trails located to the west of Pagosa Springs run through the San Juan National Forest, extending to the Wolf Creek Pass Summit and south to Chimney Rock Archeological Site. The trails vary in elevation, offering a variety of riding environments. There are places for open meadow riding and play areas on the eastern trails, as well as trails above timberline and steep hill climbing in the northern region.
The northern trails run near Vallecito Reservoir, located on the Pine River. This river, which is formed by Vallecito Dam, covers 2,720 acres, making it one of Colorado's largest reservoirs.
