IF YOU CAN WALK, YOU CAN SNOWSHOE: All you need is a pair of snowshoes, a warm coat, a pair of gloves, a winter hat and off you go into a Colorado winter wonderland with snow-covered trees, peaceful white meadows, trails running along frozen creeks and if you are lucky you'll see big horn sheep. Colorado has Nordic centers throughout our mountains with groomed trails and rentals on site, 41 state parks with marked trails and 12 national parks and monuments to explore to your hearts content.
SNOWSHOES: Be sure to ask if the resort you're staying at has snowshoes your family can use while vacationing. If not well many winter sports shops have rentals the cost can very depending on where you stay in Colorado, but if you budget $14 for adults and $8 for kids/youth per person you should be pretty close.
SNOWSHOEING TIPS FOR BEGINNERS:
- Dress in layers to stay comfortable.
- Bring a backpack with water, extra socks, sunscreen, first-aid kit, camera/smart phone, and snacks.
- Ask at the local winter sports shop for recommendations.
- Share the trail, cross-country skiers and fat-tire bikers will be enjoying the silences of nature without the drone of motorized vehicles along with your family.
- Leave No Trace: Please pack out what you pack in, stay on the designated trail, and respect plants and animals. Leave only footprints.
- Tell someone your plan; where are you going and when to you plan to be back.
